Tidal
A site-specific dance performance celebrating the sea,
performed by a cast of community dancers age 6-60.

Spittal Promenade and Beach, Berwick-upon-Tweed, 2015

We look out to sea and it appears to go on forever.

This vast expanse of water pulls us in.
Every photograph we take in our head of this coastline appears identical,
but the water is always moving, this place is always changing.

The swell of the water.
The small ripples that turn into thundering waves.
The constant motion of the tides.
The rise and fall.
The shifting and gathering of sand.
The calming sound as the waves hit the shore.
The sea that is powerful and beautiful and soothing and ferocious.

For those of us who have lived near the sea, we are bereft without it.

We are pushed and pulled with the tide.
We float on the surface.
