Portrtait for Projecting Grief, taken by Jo Ritchie
Chloë Sayers (previously Smith) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Berwick-upon-Tweed. With a background in choreography, her practice explores relationships between people and place, bodies and landscapes, and often takes place outdoors.
Drawing on contemporary performance, installation, moving image and writing, Chloë’s practice is one that is fluid and shifting, making space for new ideas and ways of making. Her recent work explores themes of community and grief, exploring what it means to be connected to those, and the landscape, around us.
Chloë’s work has been shown nationally and internationally including Salty Island Studio (Taiwan), Råneåbiennalen (Sweden), SPILL Festival (UK), and Limerick City Gallery of Art (Ireland). Her work has been supported by Arts Council England, Creative Scotland, Create Berwick, Newcastle University and Maltings Berwick.
Recent projects include This Endless Sea, a six-screen installation housed inside a coastal shelter exploring a relationship between grief and the sea; Berwick Provides, an exploration of community support and Dongyin Through Blue Eyes, a pamphlet and guided walk created for Dongyin Island.
